A screenwriter is a person who writes scripts for movies, television programs, video games, and other forms of media content. The art and craft of screenwriting is almost as old as the film industry itself; one of the first screenwriters was the American journalist Roy McCardell, who was hired by the American company Mutoscope and Biograph to write film scripts in 1900.
