Today, during their Learning Through Play session, the Preschool children read the book The Pancake and then took part in the process of making pancakes.
The pancakes were prepared for the children in advance, but we also demonstrated the ingredients so that they could see how they are used and took turns whipping the batter. We also discussed safety: in particular, why a hot stove is dangerous and how to behave around it.
The children watched with interest as the butter melted in the pan, as we poured the dough and flipped the pancakes with a spatula. And the greatest pleasure was when we flipped the pancake in the air, although we didn’t eat it, of course.
At the end of the lesson, the children were happy to roll the pancakes, adding condensed milk if they wished, and taste them. It was fun, informative and delicious!
