International Exams at Lviv British School

School testing and examination system

Lviv British School conducts a series of international and internal assessments to help track students’ development and academic achievements at different stages of their school life. These tests and examinations are developed by leading educational organisations and are recognised worldwide.

The purpose of the assessments is not only to test knowledge, but also to support the individual progress of each child, identifying their strengths and areas for development. The results are used to plan further education and to obtain internationally recognised certificates that open doors to further education.

The school conducts the following examinations and tests:

  • Baseline (BASE Assessment)initial online testing for primary school pupils
  • Cambridge Primary & Lower Secondary Checkpointexternal assessment of knowledge at the end of key stages of learning
  • Cambridge Progression Testsregular internal tests to monitor progress
  • Cambridge IGCSEinternational secondary education certification for senior students

Assessment and examinations in the 2025–2026 academic year

BASE (Baseline Assessment)

15–19 September 2025

Description: Initial online testing conducted at the beginning of the school year.

  • Assesses the child’s cognitive development level.
  • It is not an exam — it is conducted in the form of observation through an online gaming platform.
  • Allows the school to identify students’ starting skills and adapt teaching.

Subjects/areas: early speech, motor skills, emotional behaviour, cognitive perception.

Similar tests:

MidYIS (11–14 years old, Lower Secondary),

Yellis (14–16 years old, Upper Secondary).

Registration: ordered by the school at the beginning of the year.

Cost:

Early Years & Primary — £7.40,

Secondary & Post-16 — £6.10–£9.50.

Cambridge Primary & Lower Secondary Checkpoint

06–17 October 2025 (Year 7 та Year 10)
02–12 March 2026 (Year 6 та Year 9)

Description: External final assessment from Cambridge, conducted at the end of Primary (Year 6) and Lower Secondary (Year 9).

  • Allows for an objective assessment of basic knowledge acquisition.
  • Work is checked at Cambridge.
  • Students receive an official certificate.

Subjects: English (Second Language), Mathematics, Science.

Registration:

By 16 August (autumn session),

By October (spring session; after that – late registration).

Cost:

Year 6 / Year 7 — £20.10 per subject,

Year 9 / Year 10 — £29.30 per subject.

Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education)

June 2026 (not held in Ukraine during the war; alternative — portfolio + school reports throughout the year)

Description: International secondary education certification corresponding to grades 10–11.

  • Recognised by universities and educational institutions around the world.
  • Provides a foundation for further study at A-Level or IB.

Subjects:

  • English (First/Second Language), Mathematics,
  • Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology),
  • Humanities (History, Geography),
  • Languages (German, Spanish, French, etc.),
  • Business Studies, ICT, Art, Music and others.

Cost: £78.20 per subject.

Cambridge Progression Tests

Description: Cambridge internal tests for monitoring student knowledge.

  • Used to check understanding of the material and plan further learning.
  • Conducted in grades 3 to 9.

Additionally:

Year 1 — phonics screening,

Year 2 — English,

Years 10–11 — preparation for IGCSE.

Subjects: English (First/Second Language), Mathematics, Science.

Cost: included in the Cambridge programme.
