The Adult Children – is a platform for sincere dialogue between children and adults, where generations meet to better understand each other. Each episode discusses topics related to childhood, upbringing and changes in values and traditions over time.
Participants – children and adults (parents, grandparents, teachers, school guests or even older siblings) – share their experiences, compare how life has changed and dispel stereotypes that often hinder intergenerational understanding.
This podcast helps to develop the social and emotional skills of both children and adults through discussions on topics that unite and distinguish their generations. Through comparing experiences, they learn:
– Communicate effectively: Participants learn how to listen to each other, ask questions and openly express their opinions about the differences and similarities of their childhoods. This fosters a dialogue in which both sides feel heard.
– Think critically: Through discussions about myths of the ‘perfect childhood’, stereotypes about parenting, and changing priorities over time, children and adults analyse the cultural and social contexts that influence their perceptions of the world.
– Understand yourself and others: Comparing childhood memories helps to better understand one’s own needs, experiences and values. It develops empathy and the skills to accept another point of view.
– Dispel myths and build compromise: Participants discuss intergenerational perceptions together, debunking outdated stereotypes and looking for common ground. This teaches them to find common solutions and build healthy relationships.
–Express their opinions and be heard by teachers, which increases their self-confidence.
–Learn how to communicate constructively with adults, which can be useful both in school and in real life.
–Get advice and support from teachers and find new ways to cope with learning challenges.
–Strengthen relationships with teachers, which can create a more comfortable classroom environment and increase motivation to learn.
