Plot

The Boys and Girls: Myths and Reality podcast was created to discuss stereotypes and relationships between boys and girls at school. It allows students to explore and analyse ideas about themselves and others that are often imposed by society, the media or even the school environment itself. Each episode focuses on a particular myth or prejudice, which is discussed from both sides, allowing students to see where the truth is and where the stereotype is. This helps students to better understand each other, develop empathy and communication skills.

The main themes of the episodes:

1 ‘Boys are strong, girls are emotional ’ – a discussion of whether these stereotypes are true and how this affects students at school.

2 ‘Girls should love art, and boys should love mathematics “ – whether there really is a division into ”male’ and ‘female’ interests, and how students find their hobbies.

3 ‘Popularity among peers: myths about the ideal image “ – what does it mean to be ”popular’ at school and how does it affect boys and girls.

4 ‘Friendship between boys and girls: is it possible? ’ – students share their thoughts on friendship, mutual support and refute stereotypes.

5 ‘How Different Are We? ’ – a discussion on how boys and girls are different and similar, and how this affects school life.

Educational component:

The podcast helps students develop the social and emotional skills needed for healthy relationships. They learn through the discussions:

Recognise stereotypes: during the discussions, students notice how often certain ideas are not true and learn to avoid prejudice.

Communicate and listen: In an open discussion, participants learn to express their opinions and respect the opinions of others, even if they differ.

Build mutual understanding and empathy: discussion breaks down barriers and allows boys and girls to understand each other better.

Evaluate their own views: students are given the opportunity to review their own perceptions and critically evaluate where their opinions about boys and girls come from.

Each participant of the podcast gets an opportunity:

Express their own opinions on important issues, which builds self-confidence.

Understand different points of view and learn to respect the opinions of others, even when they differ.

More empathy for the boys and girls with whom they study, which improves the classroom atmosphere.

Tools to overcome stereotypes, which help in forming personal opinions and positive perceptions of others.
