Dragons symbolise many different things, depending on where they are found. In Britain, defeating a dragon meant you were a strong warrior, so they were often depicted on flags. In Western tradition they often symbolise evil, and the devil is sometimes depicted either as a dragon or with dragon wings. Today we focused on exploring the cultural significance of the dragon in the history of different societies, from Europe to Asia. Throughout the day, we enjoyed dragon tales and created our own big dragon. The activities included learning about the symbols of 2024, analysing literary and folklore works with dragons in different cultures. We also made a Chinese dragon from available materials and learnt and performed the dragon dance, which symbolises strength and dignity.
